A 7 year old sacrifices for his best friend

Salman Khan's Story

While Salman was shooting for Dabangg at Wai (base of Panchgani), everyday he watched his crew drive past a throng of kids walking to school. A curious Salman went up to the school to find out how far were the homes of these children. An awed headmaster shared that there were 200 kids who walked 5km to 6km everyday to come to school. To some the number may seem reasonable, but in a village school, this number represented 90% of the students. Imagine the plight of little feet dragging themselves through kilometers of rough path to get access to their basic right of education. This thought disrupted Salman's peace and he promptly arranged 200 bicycles to be distributed among these children. Through Salman Khan Being Human Foundation, each of these students were gifted a bicycle, making their journey to school smoother and joyful. As a result, tables turned for the school which was grappling with issue of high absenteeism, thereby created a win-win situation for all. A happy ending we thought, but a few days later, a boy with a cycle stopped Salman Khan in his tracks just outside the school. Salman recognized the cycle and stepped out of the car to speak to the boy. The 7 year old kept repeating his humble plea "Please take this cycle back. I am ready to walk 5kms everyday but in return please help my best friend who has a hole his heart. I want to be able to play with him again." As goes his second nature, Salman quickly arranged a team of Being Human doctors to be flown in that very day before sunset. Without a second thought, Being Human committed to all medical expenses for treatment and future surgery. After all, a cycle can bring you comfort but what fun is riding alone if you don't have your best friend for company.
